Patty Elwin Davis has been an avid quiltmaker for over 30 years specializing in hand appliquéd and hand quilted narrative quilts. When she won "Best of Show" in the first regional quilt exhibition she entered (1984), she realized that she had found the perfect medium for self-expression.
She has studied the History of Art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Cornell University and has had the opportunity to travel widely. Much of this experience has found its way into the narratives of her quilts. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and in Canada and Japan and has won numerous prizes and awards.
Many of her quilts are now in the permanent collections of museums and historical societies.
Her books "The Bard in Stichery" and "Twice Told Tales: History, Literature and Family Lore Retold in Narrative Quilts" are available in museums or can be ordered directly from the author. Find the ORDER FORMS in the left hand column of this page or visit the author's website.
She lives in Ithaca, New York with her husband of 58 years, a retired economics professor. She is an enthusiastic gardener and golfer and she finds the long winters in Upstate New York ideal for creative quilt making.
