Community Arts Partnership Selects New Executive Director
September 20, 2007 (ITHACA, NY)— Starting next month, Ithaca’s arts community will have a new advocate. On October 29th, Brett Bossard will become the Executive Director of the Community Arts Partnership (CAP), the arts council for Tompkins County. Bossard comes to CAP after spending the past two seasons as the Marketing Manager at the Hangar Theatre. His career in arts administration includes program and collections management at art and history museums in New York and Ohio, as well as marketing projects for local musicians and artists such as the Compassionately Stoneground Books writers collective. Bossard also previously served as CAP’s Director of Ticketing Services and managed the Ticket Center at Clinton House, Ithaca’s community box office.
While at the Hangar, Bossard began a project with staff from Ithaca’s four other live theatre venues—Kitchen Theatre Company, Ithaca College, Cornell’s Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts, and the State Theatre—to promote Ithaca as a theatre destination. The Ithaca Theatre Collective’s regional marketing campaign kicks off later this fall.
John Spence, President of CAP’s Board of Trustees, believes Bossard’s background in fostering collaboration among arts, business, and other community organizations will be a great asset to the organization. “We are pleased and very excited about Brett’s coming on board at CAP. Tompkins County generally, and the arts community specifically, will benefit greatly form his networking and collaborative skills. Building on the achievements of our past director, Richard Driscoll, CAP is ready to expand and deepen its support of the artists, organizations, and artistic events that enrich our lives and community.”
Prior to working in the arts, Bossard spent twelve years in broadcast and print media, including four years as program director of Bilbat Radio in Hornell, New York. A native of the Finger Lakes region, he holds a BS in Television and Radio from Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications and an MA in Popular Culture Studies from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
The Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County was founded in 1990 in response to a desire to strengthen and develop the County's arts and cultural community. After an exhaustive, inclusive, community cultural assessment, CAP was launched as a not-for-profit agency that would serve the public by providing services to the arts and artists of Tompkins County.
