Things We Learned in Facebook 201
December 3rd, 2010
On Thursday, December 2nd, CAP held the Facebook 201 workshop, with pointers for artists on how to engage their audiences once they'd set up a Facebook Page.
In addition to setting up Events, Notes, Social Tags, and applications for an artist page on Facebook, we also covered adding facebook content on outside websites.
Content like this "Like Box":

|
To make one for your website:
- Go to your Facebook Page (easily done if you've already created your custom alias)
- Click on "Edit Page"
- On the left side bar, choose "Marketing"
- You'll be presented with a list of "Many ways to promote your page" including "Add a like box to your website." Click on that.
- By default, the field for Facebook Page URL reads: "http://www.facebook.com/platform" You'll need to change that address to YOUR page address. In our case, I changed it to "http://www.facebook.com/ArtsPartner"
- Choose the other ways you'd like to customize your like box, including width, whether or not you'd like a news feed and how many fans you'd like to feature.
- Click the "Get Code" button, and a new window will pop up with the HTML code for your custom box.
- Copy the "iframe" code and paste it into the HTML of any page you like, and VOILA! dynamic Facebook content on your site.

and THIS "Badge"
To add one to your site:
- From the same page of "Ways to promote your page" mentioned above, choose "Get a badge."
- Here, you can automatically add a badge to your Blogger and TypePad pages (if you have them) or click on the "Other" button to get more copy-and-paste-able HTML code.
- The badge can also be modified slightly to include or exclude items like your current status and number of fans. Use the "Edit Badge" link to the right, make the changes you want, click the save button, and you'll have new code to copy and paste.
