Robin's Ramblings: Workshops under Way!

April 29th, 2010

Last night, on April 28th, CAP hosted the first workshop in its Spring 2010 series; Digital Images 101 led by photographer Andrew Gillis.  This morning I came to work and found five e-mails from five attendees telling me how much they enjoyed the workshop.

And I didn't even ask anyone to do that!

"Digital 101 was jam packed with information I needed, big-time"
"Andrew was good at explaining difficult concepts!"
"The workshop was well conducted and allowed for easy access of information"
"I would love to see this workshop extended, to keep it going..."

Well, I'm thrilled. I've always wanted to host a series of workshops at CAP.  We picked topics that we thought artists of all disciplines and arts organizations would find useful and interesting. As for the first class, the proof was in the pudding. (and yes, I had to stop what I was writing and look up the origin of that phrase.)

So what do you all think?  What ideas do you have about workshops!  We will definitely continue to host at least 4 or 5 twice a year.  I think the Digital one and the Facebook one may be offered again and again. And it seems like a good idea to offer a Digital Images 201 and 301... Let me know programs@artspartner.org

The next one coming up on May 5th is about Facebook Pages.   Social networking is FREE and more than 40,000 people in Ithaca alone are checking poking around Facebook in Ithaca alone. Vicki Taylor from Ithaca Downtown Alliance has taught this workshop many times and is extremely good at telling folks about how to take advantage of social networking (as individuals or businesses).

Lynne Taetzsch's class on driving people to your website (and selling work from your website) is filling up really fast.  I knew that one would be extremely popular!!

I hope more people take advantage of the Estate Planning (i.e. what the heck do you do with all your art and work when you die?). We should know this stuff even if we don't want to think about it.

I can't wait for the Intellectual Property (copyright, trademark...) class because I really need to know this information!  I know many artists who hope that they aren't violating any laws but really don't know for sure.

I will teach Grant Writing Basics with George Ferrari from the Community Foundation of Tompkins County, so you will get two perspectives - one from someone who manages large grants funded by individuals and businesses and one from someone who manages smaller state grants.

All details and information are on this site at the workshop page.
