April
23, 2010 (ITHACA, NY)- This May 7th through the 9th
the Community Arts Partnership (CAP) presents Spring (W)rites, the inaugural
Finger Lakes Literary Festival-a constellation of 18 literary themed events,
from workshops and panel discussions for writers to readings and performances
by local poets, playwrights, essayists and novelists. All festival events are
free to the public, and Barnes & Noble has partnered with CAP to help
support the programming by making Spring (W)rites an official Barnes &
Noble Book Fair Event.
Throughout
the weekend, B & N shoppers need only mention CAP (or present a voucher
available at all festival locations), and a percentage of the net proceeds of
every sale will directly benefit the Community Arts Partnership. While this
special fund raiser was organized by Liz Hudson, Community Relations Manager of
the Ithaca store, the Book Fair vouchers can be presented at any Barnes &
Noble Store, including BarnesAndNoble.com (using voucher ID# 10186542).
Brett
Bossard, executive director of CAP, is thrilled to have this support. "Not
surprisingly, funding for this first year of the festival has been tight," says
Bossard, "so Liz's generous offer to help spread the word and give back a
little to the community was a nice surprise." Additional funding support for
the festival has come from the New York State Council on the Arts and the
Tompkins County Tourism Program.
The
Ithaca Barnes & Noble is also serving as a festival location. At 2:00 pm on
Saturday, May 8th, the store will host a panel discussion on
creating book and reading groups. Representatives from the popular "Killer
Coffee Club," a local mystery book reading club, will be on hand to share some
of their success stories. Other local book groups will also be on hand to help
out, and maybe even recruit some new members! The full list of events for the
weekend is available online at www.SpringWrites.org.
Spring
(W)rites, the 2010 Finger Lakes Literary Festival, is a program of the
Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County (CAP). CAP was founded in 1990 to
serve as the arts council of Tompkins County, providing technical assistance,
grant opportunities, and professional services and information to artists and
arts organizations, as well as public programs that celebrate and support the
arts community in the county. For the past 19 years, CAP has helped to
distribute more than $2 million to artists and arts organizations in the
community. For more information on the Community Arts Partnership and its
programs and services, visit www.artspartner.org or call Program Director, Robin
Schwartz at (607) 273-5072.
