The most important thing about working with plays is veracity; being able to find and translate a basic human truth. Every play I work on, whether I'm writing, directing, or acting as dramaturge, needs to be able to resonate easily and genuinely with the audience. Above all, theatre should be a reflection of simple everyday existence. Unlike movies or TV, stage acting brings an unspoken promise of truthful, basic human interaction...no gimmicks, no special effects, no extraordinary suspension of disbelief.

I've been working in theatre for twenty years; before that I was a novelist and short story writer. I received my M.F.A. in playwriting from Goddard College in 2007. My work has been seen in Ithaca, New York City, Marquette, Michigan, Valdez, Alaska and elsewhere. Awards include the 2001 Panowski Award for "Ghosts", "Oatmeal and a Cigarette" was selected as Critics' Pick at the 2008 Cincinnati Fringe Festival. I've worked as a dramaturge all over the country, including northern Michigan, New York City, and Alaska, helping to develop new plays for first productions.

Theatre is a collaborative, multi-discipline art form and I've also worked as a lighting and set designer, stage manager, and have spearheaded several production companies in Ithaca. I also teach playwriting and give dramaturgy seminars.
