I come from a very large family and one of my task was to entertain my younger brothers and sisters on Saturday mornings so my mother could get the house cleaning done. I did this by gathering all the art supplies and recyclable items I could find. We would gather around the big oak dining table and create anything from a wall mural to paper flowers. We would work from early morning until lunch time producing images and objects from our imagination. I still collect odds and ends of things and become excited about what creation might emerge from them.
Making art allows me to bring together my life long interest in psychology, the spiritual and creativity. I enjoy finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. No matter how divided, ugly or broken life can be we can find beauty. By taking pieces from life and putting those pieces together in different configurations I see an astonishing work of art emerge.
I love using watercolor and acrylics but have started doing more mixed media because then I can incorporate actual pieces from life.
I am also on the Greater Ithaca Art Trail at www.ArtTrail.com
